Garden Design

It is surprising to me that not many people have their gardens designed professionally. A good design can save you hundreds if not thousands of pounds. You must have seen lots of gardens which people have spent a lot of money on, only to turn out not interesting or inspiring. Add to that if the work is not done to a good standard it is likely that some rework will have to be carried out. A good design will be interesting, exciting, and should have that wow factor. Also it will be functional, fit for purpose and meet the owners requirements. One of the first things I do when starting a design is to chat with the customer to get a feel for what they want. I have a detailed questionnaire which is very important. This is a list of possible items with tick boxes to say whether you want, don't want or would consider. This is a great memory jogger. I have spent many years looking through design books, researching the principles. I am currently doing a course with the "Institute of Garden Design".

Makeovers

This is not a term that sits comfortably with me. Usually this is where there is limited budget available. However there is a place for this in the market. Tends to be driven by the customer, who will have specific idea of what they want. It may be that you're happy with your garden in general, but certain areas need maintenance or improvement.

Decking

More and more people are having decking in the garden. There are many benefits, not least the fact that it can be tailored to your design or situation. It has the contemporary look, and can look much better than slabs. Decking can really extend your living space, and can be seen as an outside living area. Decks ideally should be fitted in sunny areas, because it can become slippery over prolonged periods of damp i.e. winter. However there are products on the market nowadays that can be used to elimate slipperyness (is that a word?!) completely.

Water Gardens

Water adds interest to any garden. From simple water feature that gives a simple gurgle, to a majestic bubbling stream. Ponds, bridges all can be incorporpated into an overall garden design.

Lighting

Enhance your Garden with subtle strategically placed lights. Highlight your specimen shrub or tree, pathways, decking.
